Revisioning Americana

Revisioning Americana was a Fall Winter 2025 Womens Wear Fashion Forecast that I completed during the Fall semester of 2023 at Virginia Commonwealth University. I completed the project in a group of three which included Elyse Dobyns, Madison Evola, and Lindsey Davis

What were we asked to do?

For our Women's Wear FW 2025 forecast titled "Revisioning Americana," our group was tasked with developing a comprehensive fashion forecast that captures the essence of contemporary American culture.

This project required us to synthesize our semester's learning in research and forecasting by creating a visually compelling and analytically sound presentation. We needed to curate a range of design elements, including mood boards, color palettes, fabric and pattern forecasts, runway looks, and street style looks.

The goal was to present a cohesive narrative that not only highlights emerging trends but also reflects the complexities of the modern American aesthetic, ensuring that our forecast was both innovative and relevant to the target market.

Process

As we crafted our forecast, we focused on the emotional and artistic dimensions of "Revisioning Americana," aiming to evoke a sense of nostalgia while embracing modernity.

To bring our vision of "Revisioning Americana" to life, our group collaborated closely throughout the project, leveraging each member's strengths. My primary contributions included extensive research and writing, where I delved into the historical and cultural contexts that shape contemporary American fashion. I also contributed to the color stories that encapsulated the project’s theme, ensuring that they reflected both emotional resonance and market relevance.

To enhance the visual appeal of our presentation, I utilized Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to refine our slides, focusing on design elements that would engage our audience and highlight key insights effectively.

The Outcome

A key takeaway from our "Revisioning Americana" project was the recognition of how deeply intertwined fashion is with cultural identity and social trends. Our successful forecast highlighted emerging themes that resonate with today's consumers, such as sustainability and the revival of vintage aesthetics, showcasing a significant shift towards more thoughtful and authentic fashion choices. Winning the Critic's Choice Award not only validated our collective efforts but also reinforced the importance of narrative and emotional connection in fashion forecasting.
